RUSSIAN CONFLICT AFFECTS LOCAL TIMBER SUPPLIES

Russian owned ship gets turned away from Great Yarmouth docks.

The ship and cargo (approximately 1 million pounds worth of timber) has been refused to dock under new sanctions put on Russia by The UK Government as a result of the conflict in Ukraine.

Seller and distributor of timber says: ‘With less timber in the country whilst demand still remains high, there is no doubt that the price of timber will rise. Alongside the increase in fuel and other household costs - we are already starting to see timber becoming one of these.

Though only roughly 25% of ships used to import timber to the UK are Russian-owned; a delay and shortage in some materials are likely to occur.

The advice is to buy products before stock begins to dwindle.
